Why people leave superwhisper
It's not because it's bad. Here's what I actually hear:
1. Too many knobs. Modes, custom prompts, model menus. Some people love tuning. Some people just want to hold a key and talk.
2. The subscription. Pro is about $8.49 a month. That's roughly $100 a year, every year. There's a lifetime option, but plenty of people never notice it.
3. The cloud option. With local models, superwhisper is private. But Pro can also send your words to cloud AI from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. If your company says no cloud, you're trusting everyone to keep the right setting on.
If none of those bug you, stay on superwhisper. Seriously.
1. Rhino Voicemine
Mine. Rhino is the opposite of a settings playground on purpose. Hold Fn, talk, let go, and clean text lands wherever your cursor is. Filler words and false starts get removed by an AI that runs on your Mac. That's the product.
The stuff you'd build a custom mode for in superwhisper is already on by default. Rhino goes word-for-word in the Claude and ChatGPT desktop apps and in terminals, so your prompts don't get rewritten. The custom dictionary fixes names and jargon, plus the ways the model tends to mishear them.
There's no cloud AI to turn on, even by accident. Every code change has to pass a test that fails if the app opens a network connection while transcribing.
What you give up: Windows and mobile (superwhisper has both, Rhino is Mac only), a free tier, and the ability to tweak everything. Needs Apple silicon and macOS 14 or newer.

5. MacWhisper
Best known for transcribing recordings, with speaker labels and subtitle export on Pro. The Gumroad version also does live dictation. If you used superwhisper for both jobs, one MacWhisper license might cover you, with no subscription.
6. Aqua Voice
Cloud dictation with good cleanup at a lower price than Wispr Flow. The free tier is small, so treat it as a trial. Your speech is processed on their servers.
My pick
If superwhisper's settings are the problem, get something simpler. That's literally why Rhino exists: one key, good defaults, done.
If the subscription is the problem, check superwhisper's lifetime option first. Then compare it with Rhino ($20) and VoiceInk (from $29).
If you need Windows or your phone, stay on superwhisper or go to Wispr Flow. Rhino can't help you there.

- Write down the one thing about superwhisper that annoys you most. That decides which alternative you pick.
- If it's price: check whether superwhisper's lifetime tier is cheaper than you think.
- If it's settings or cloud: try Rhino for a week with the same work you do now. Refund inside 30 days if it's not better.
