- Does my voice or my text leave my Mac?
- No. Audio, transcripts, history and the AI cleanup pass all stay on your Mac. Rhino only reaches the network to check for signed app updates and to download speech models you explicitly ask for.
- Does Rhino work offline?
- Yes. Once you have downloaded a speech model, dictation and cleanup both work with the network off: on a plane, on hotel Wi-Fi you do not trust, or with the machine air-gapped.
- What are the system requirements?
- An Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs are not supported, because the on-device speech and cleanup models need Apple silicon to run fast enough to be worth using.
- Which apps does Rhino work with?
- Any Mac app that accepts text. Rhino inserts at your cursor wherever it happens to be: mail clients, browsers, editors, Slack, terminals. It needs Microphone and Accessibility permissions to do that.
- How is this different from Wispr Flow?
- Wispr Flow processes your speech in its cloud on a $15/month subscription and runs on Mac, Windows and mobile. Rhino Voice processes everything on your own Mac, works offline, is free to start ($20 once for unlimited), and is Mac-only. If you need dictation on your phone or a Windows PC too, Wispr Flow is the better pick.
- How is this different from the dictation built into macOS?
- Apple's dictation also runs on-device, so it solves the privacy question too. What it does not do is clean up how people speak. It transcribes you literally, ums and false starts included. Rhino Voice runs a local AI pass that turns what you said into the sentence you meant.
- Is Rhino free?
- Yes. Download it and dictate as much as you like for your first week. After that you get 2,000 words a week free, every week, forever. If you dictate more than that, you can unlock unlimited by inviting 2 friends, or pay $20 once, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Your history is never locked either way.
- Does it work in other languages?
- Yes. The default model is tuned for English, so for other languages switch to Parakeet v3 (25 European languages) or a Whisper model (dozens of languages) in Settings. People use Rhino in Polish, Danish, German and Italian. If you switch between two languages, auto-detect sometimes types the wrong one, so picking your language in Settings works best.
- Can I delete my dictation history?
- Yes. History lives on your Mac. You can delete individual recordings, clear all of it, set a retention limit, or turn history off so nothing is stored in the first place.
